“Members of the Ontario College of Teachers are learners who acknowledge the interdependence of teacher learning and student learning. They engage in a continuum of professional growth to improve their practice.”

Key Elements:

Teacher learning and student learning

As a student at York University, I have been given many opportunities to research mathematics education. Through my involvement in a research group led by Professor Walter Whiteley, I have participated in an online wiki site, workshops and educational research discussions. I feel like this extentive study on how students learn mathematics is what helps me to better plan my lessons in order to reach every student in my class.

Professional growth

I am a strong advocate for professional growth. I believe that a teacher NEVER stops learning. It is my duty to continue to push myself to be the type of teacher who always brings new and innovative ideas into a classroom and school community. I have participated in many different conferences, which are highlighted in this section. These conferences and workshops have not been merely events that I have attended, but rather I consistently take the material I learn and directly apply it to the classroom.

Improving practice : *Professional Goals*

I hope to continue to learn in order to improve my practice of teaching. This section highlights merely some of the professional goals I desire to attain in the course of my teaching profession. If I want my students to believe that they can accomplish anything that they put their minds to, then I must also be a model of this perseverance and hope.
